Jiří Petr

Jiří Petr ( born May 13, 1931 in Hradec Králové ) is a Czech agricultural scientists. He is a professor and rector emeritus of the Czech Agricultural University in Prague.

Biography

Petr received an education with high school in Broumov and began his studies at the Technical University of Prague in the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in field crop production. After his graduation as Dipl.-Ing Agr. he was a postgraduate student in the area of ​​"special crop production " with studying in Moscow ( RU), Rothamsted (UK), Hall (then East Germany). As a candidate of Agricultural Sciences ( CSc ) with internships in Norway, Sweden, England, Germany, France, Austria and Spain, he obtained his PhD for Dr.agr. with a thesis on the biology of the Czech exchange wheat varieties. His habilitation was concerned with studies on photoperiodic response of cereals and legumes. Following its publication in grain yield formation he took over as a lecturer or as an adjunct professor teaching tasks of Agronomy. Associate Professor of Agronomy was Petr, 1989; In 1990 he was elected Rector of the Czech University of Agriculture Prague ( CZU ).

From 1990 to 1994 he was rector of the CZU; after assuming office, he immediately agreed cooperation with EU universities, led a Western European languages ​​and gave teaching to business specialists from Western Europe. Thus he created the basic conditions for the high international standing of the University in Prague- Suchdol.

From 1990-2010 he was the publisher and editor of the scientific journal; " Scientia Agriculturae Bohemia". He has received numerous scientific awards, including of the Mendel University in Brno, the Agricultural University in Nitra, the University in České Budějovice and of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences; In 1999 he received his honorary doctorate H.C. at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala.
