Joan Chandler

Joan Chandler ( born August 24, 1923 in Butler, Pennsylvania as Joan Cheeseman, † 11 May 1979 in New York City ) was an American actress.

Life and career

Joan Chandler was born as the daughter of a rental car dealer. She gave her film debut in 1945 in a non -mentioned uncredited role in day and night I think of you. She became famous a year later on the side of Joan Crawford in Humoresque. In 1947 she was a founding member of the famous Actors Studio. The biggest success of her career, she gained in 1948 in the Alfred Hitchcock film Rope, in which she played the elegant friend of the murder victim to be played with the nasty intrigues. However, Joan Chandler's career did not take the desired course and she had after Rope only guest appearances in several television series ( Studio One, Starlight Theatre ). Three times she played on Broadway, but she could not even get a foothold there. Around 1962, she retired from acting.

Joan Chandler was married twice, first with David McKay and later with the doctor Charles C. Hogan. Both marriages ended in divorce. She died in 1979 with only 55 years to cancer.
