Joan Phipson

Joan Margaret Phipson ( born November 16, 1912 in Warrawee, New South Wales in Australia, † April 2, 2003 in Australia) was an Australian author of children's books.

Life

Phipson was an only child and spent a lot of time as a toddler when traveling with their parents between Australia, England and India. She was educated at Frensham School, where she later worked as a librarian and Druckerin and Frensham Press built. She studied journalism and worked in London at Reuters until the Second World War. From 1941 until her marriage in 1944 she served as the Women's Auxiliary at Fernmelderin Australian Air Force.

After her marriage to Colin Fitzhardinge, the couple had settled west of Sydney in the rural area of the Outback. Here is her first children's books that describe, among other things, the life and the dangers in this environment emerged. The first, Good Luck to the Rider was released in 1953 and received in the same year the award Australian Children's Book of the Year.

Phipson wrote to the death of her husband, with whom she had two children, in the 1990s children's books. Her books have been translated into French, German, Swedish and Hungarian.
