Joaquín V. González

Joaquín Victor González ( born March 6, 1863 in Nonogasta, Departamento Chilecito, La Rioja province, † December 21, 1923 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine politician and writer.

Life

González came from a wealthy and well-established family. He finished his studies in law at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in 1886 with a doctorate. He then got a job in the administration and also made political career.

He was elected to the National Parliament of his country and later also appointed to the Senate. Between 1889 he was elected for two years as Governor of the province of La Rioja. Then headed González successively the departments internal politics, law and culture. In 1905 he was instrumental in the founding of the University of La Plata and by this also as its first president. This university, he inherited his extensive private library.

Joaquín González Victor died almost 60 years old on 21 December 1923 in Buenos Aires and found his final resting place.

Honors

In his honor, the city carries Joaquín Victor González ( Department of Anta, Province of Salta ) his name.
