Job Mann

Job Mann ( born March 31, 1795 in Bethel, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, † October 8, 1873 in Bedford, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1835 and 1837, and again 1847-1851, he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Born in what is now Fulton County job man attended the common schools and the Bedford Academy. In 1816, he was an administrative employee at the District Council in Bedford County. Between 1818 and 1835, he practiced in this district from another administrative offices. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1834 man in the 21st electoral district of Pennsylvania was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George Burd on March 4, 1835. Since he has not been confirmed in 1836, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1837. This was marked by discussions on the policies of President Andrew Jackson.

After a subsequent law degree in 1839 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started working in Bedford in this profession. Between 1842 and 1848 man was Finance Minister ( State Treasurer ) of Pennsylvania. He also was a member of the House of Representatives of that State. In the 1846 elections has been elected to Congress again in the 19th district of Pennsylvania, where he Henry Donnel Foster replaced on March 4, 1847. After a re-election he was able to March 3, 1851 to spend two terms in the House of Representatives. This period was initially determined by the events of the Mexican- American War. After the discussion on the issue of slavery dominated the political events inside and outside of Congress. At the time, worked out by Henry Clay Compromise of 1850 was passed.

In 1850 Job renounced man on another candidacy. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on 8 October 1873 in Bedford, where he was also buried.
