Jocelyne Binet

Jocelyne Binet ( born September 27, 1923 in East Angus, Quebec, † January 13, 1968 in Quebec ) was a Canadian composer, pianist and music teacher.

Life

Binet studied at the École Vincent- d'Indy composition and music theory with Claude Champagne and piano with Jean Dansereau and Jean -Marie Beaudet. In 1948 she went to the Conservatoire de Paris, where Tony Aubin, Noël Gallon and Olivier Messiaen were their teachers.

In 1951 she returned to Canada, where she taught at the École Vincent- d'Indy to 1957. In addition, she taught from 1952 to 1961 at the summer camps of the Jeunesse Musicales du Canada ( JMC ), from 1957 to 1959 at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec and from 1957 to 1968 at Laval University. Her most famous students were Serge Garant, Gilles Tremblay and Monique Vachon.

In addition to the four major orchestral pieces Binet composed chamber music, vocal music and songs. In 1946 she was awarded the Composition Prize of Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada ( CAPAC ).
