Jodocus Badius

Jodocus badius (* 1462 in Ghent, † 1535 in Paris) was a Flemish printer and humanist. He is frequently referred to by the nickname Ascensius after the place aces.

Life

Badius studied in Ferrara and taught in Lyon Latin and Greek language, where he in 1493 published a Terenzausgabe. 1499 moved Badius to Paris, where he opened his print shop in 1503, whose emblem - the interior of a printing workshop - became famous. Badius exerted on the development of the French publishing of large influence. He published many early works of Erasmus of Rotterdam and Guillaume Budé.

Robert Estienne was Badius ' son.
