Joe McNally

Joe McNally ( born 1952 in Montclair, New Jersey) is an American photographer working among others since 1987 for the National Geographic Society.

McNally studied at the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He works out of New York City and lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Career

From 1994 to 1998, Joe McNally, a staff photographer of LIFE magazine, the first in 23 years. His most famous series Faces of Ground Zero - Portraits of the Heroes of September 11th, a collection of 246 giant Polaroid portraits taken in the Moby C Studio near Ground Zero in three weeks shortly after the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 A. selection of these life-size (9 ' x 4') photos were exhibited in 2002 in seven U.S. cities and seen by almost a million people. The exhibition and book published by LIFE brought in about $ 2 million for the victims of the attacks.

20 years McNally works for the National Geographic Magazine. One of the projects for this magazine was The Future of Flying ( The future of flying ), a 32-page cover story, which was published in December 2003 for the 100th anniversary of the flight of the Wright brothers. The article was the first all digitally photographed for the magazine, the issue was a finalist for the National Magazine Award and one of the most popular title pages.

His advertising orders include FedEx, Nikon, Sony, Land's End, General Electric, MetLife, bow, Adidas, Kelby Media Group, Wildlife Conservation Society and the American Ballet Theatre.

2008 McNally published his first book, The Moment It Clicks (Eng. The decisive moment ), 2009, the second, The Hotshoe Diaries (Eng. Joe McNally's Hot Shoe Diaries ).

Awards

McNally has been described by the magazine American Photo as perhaps the most versatile contemporary photojournalist and included in the list of the 100 most important people in photography.

In January 1999, Kodak and Photo District News honored McNally by including them in their Legends Online archive. 2001 Nikon gave a similar distinction, in that they received McNally on NikonNet.com ' s list of Legends Behind the Lens.
