Joe Melia

Joe Melia ( actually Giovanni Philip William Melia, born January 23, 1935 in Islington, † 20 October 2012 in Stratford- upon- Avon ) was a British actor.

Life

Melia was born as the son of Italian immigrants who settled during the Second World War in Leicester. After school hours and service at the Intelligence Corps, he joined the Downing College on the stage, which led to a film role in Too Many Crooks 1959. In the main, however, Melia devoted himself to stage work; Irma La Douce in the musical, directed by Peter Brook, Jonathan Miller Beyond the Fringe at a Fortune and especially in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg by Peter Nichols, he was known and celebrated. His humor and dry wit could also enjoy film and television viewers; but always theatergoers. 16 years belonged Melia Royal Shakespeare Company at; In 1982, he won an Oliver for his portrayal of a Jewish doctor who wants to be a good German, in CP Taylor's Good.
