Joël Marc Abati ( born April 25, 1970 in Fort-de -France, Martinique ) is a French handball national team. He is a Knight of the French Legion of Honour.

Abati played in the period from 1 July 1997 to 30 June 2007 preferably as a right winger or back room right at SC Magdeburg handball league. Before that he was at Fort de France, Créteil, Espoir de Floreal and USM Gagny. During his time with the SCM the left-hander won the Champions League ( 2002), the German championship (2001 ), two Association - European Championships (2001, 2002), three times the EHF Cup ( 1999, 2001, 2007) and the Supercup 2001.

After ten very successful years in which the SCM was never worse placed than rank 6 at the end of a season, Abati moved to the top French club Montpellier HB, where he first stood for another two years as an active player under contract, and then as a coach in the junior area to enter. As part of its adoption of Magdeburg, he was appointed Honorary Ambassador of the same city. 22 December 2007 Joël Abati was included as the eleventh player in the Hall of Fame SC Magdeburg. With Montpellier he once won the French championship ( 2009).

Abati is one of the most successful handball players in the world. With the French national team in 2001 he was World Champion, 2006 European Champion and won at the 2008 Olympics, the gold medal. In 2009 he was again with France champion.

He is one of the most accurate shooters seven meters in Bundesliga history.

In 2011 he ran for the SC DHfK Leipzig in the two qualifying matches for the second division again. In March 2014 Abati had another comeback in the French fourth division Olonne Vendée handball.
