Johan Bonny

Johan Jozef Bonny (* July 10, 1955 in Ostend, West Flanders, Belgium) is a Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Antwerp.

Life

Bonny studied in Bruges, Leuven and Rome. After his ordination on July 20, 1980 and doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1982 he worked as a lecturer in the seminary of the diocese of Bruges. Since 1997 he was rector of the Belgian College in Rome and employees in the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

October 28, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Bishop of Antwerp. He received his episcopal consecration on January 4, 2009, the Chairman of the Belgian Bishops Conference and Archbishop of Mechelen -Brussels, Godfried Cardinal Danneels, in the Antwerp Cathedral of Our Lady. Co-consecrators were Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, his predecessor, Paul Van den Berghe and Roger Joseph Vangheluwe, Bishop of Bruges. His motto is Agnus pascet Illos.

On 21 January 2010 he was named Benedict XVI. also a member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

On June 16, 2012 Johan Bonny was invested in the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
