Johan Skjoldborg

Johan Skjoldborg (* April 27, 1861 in Vester Hanherred in Thisted, † February 22, 1936 ) was a Danish poet and writer.

Life

Skjoldborg was born in 1861 in Vester Hanherred in Thisted, where his father worked as a peasant farmer and shoemaker. His family home is located on Byholmvejlevej. Johan Skjoldborg worked for 20 years as a teacher in the country, until he gave this work to the benefit of his work as a writer and for lecture tours.

In his stories, novels, plays and lectures, he sat down for an improvement in the living conditions of the farmers. His most important novel En Stridsmand ( a fighter ) dedicated to the small farmers.

Skjoldborg also tried his hand even as small farmer on the peninsula Dynæs at Himmelbjerg, southeast of Silkeborg. Dynæs was a popular meeting place. There, many of them created his popular poems and songs.
