Johan Teyler

Johannes Teyler (c. 23 May 1648 Nijmegen, † 1697-1709 ) was a Dutch etcher, engraver, draftsman, inventor and professor of philosophy and mathematics .. From 1679, he traveled through Italy, Egypt, the Holy Land and Malta and made drawings of the forts. During a trip to Berlin in 1683 Teyler has also held views of Berlin Electoral Palace in color engravings. Then he returned to the Netherlands and settled in the province of Holland.

Between 1683 and 1688 he developed a method to realize color prints with a single engraving. Among his pupils were John van Call (1656-1705? ) And Mattheus Berckenboom.

1695 the chair of mathematics, he was offered at the University of Halle.
