Johann Dietenberger

Johann Dieterich Berger (born in 1475 in Frankfurt am Main, † September 4, 1537 in Mainz ) was a prior of the Dominicans and theologian.

Dieterich Berger was born as the son of a cooper. He stepped forward in 1500 the Order of the Dominicans and was active in the Order as a pastor and lecturer of theology. 1510 Dietenberger prior in Frankfurt. From 1511 he studied in Cologne and Heidelberg theology and a doctorate to 1514 at the University of Mainz first to Lic theol. and 1515 as a doctor of theology. 1516 to 1517 he was again prior in Frankfurt. This is followed by an activity included as rain and lecturer in theology at the monastery to Trier. He was Prior in 1519 in Koblenz and was then again 1520-26 prior in Frankfurt and from 1527 again in Koblenz. As part of the Diet of Augsburg in 1530, he was commissioned directed against the Augsburg Confession font of the Catholic Church ( Confutatio Augustana ) to write with. 1532 he was appointed professor at the University of Mainz.

Dieterich Berger wrote numerous, especially polemical and ascetic writings, significantly thereof are published in Mainz in 1534 a translation of the Bible, the Dietenberger Bible, and a German catechism of 1537.
