Johann Georg Schmidt (painter)

Johann Georg Schmidt ( * 1685 in Bohemia; † September 15, 1748 in Krems ) was a Baroque painter. To distinguish from the more famous namesake Martin Johann Schmidt ( Kremser Schmidt) he was also called Wiener Schmidt.

Johann Georg Schmidt was educated in the studio of Peter Strudel and was influenced by Martino Altomonte. He often collaborated with architects like Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. Especially in Lower Austria and Vienna many high altarpieces and ceiling paintings are preserved, among other things, in Altenburg Abbey, Stift Klosterneuburg, Lilienfeld and pen Zwettl.
