Johann Heinrich von Ostein

Johann Heinrich von Ostein (* 1579, † November 26, 1646 in Delsberg ) was from 1628 eighteen Years of the Princely bishop of Basel.

Life

Johann Heinrich von Ostein came from the noble family of Alsatian Ostein and was included in the chapter of Basel in 1594. In 1604 he kapitularierte provost of Moutier- Grandval and served as vicar general from 1611 to 1614. He also sat from 1611 spiritual advice.

In Delsberg was appointed Bishop of Basel from 1628 to 1629 Ostein was consecrated bishop in Pruntrut. It opened in 1630, the Capuchin monastery Dels mountain and two years later the Capuchin monastery Sulz in Alsace. The ruler area of the bishop was abused by the parties during the Thirty Years' War from 1632 as a transit country and led to looting and occupation of Ajoie by the French from 1636 to 1643 to the impoverishment of the Bishopric. From 1632 to 1640 lived from Ostein outside his residence.
