Johann Holetschek

Johann Holetschek ( born August 29, 1846 in Thuma, Lower Austria, † November 10, 1923 in Vienna ) was an Austrian astronomer.

Holetschek studied astronomy at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1872. Thereafter, he became an assistant at the Old University Observatory and 1878 Adjunct. His main interest lay in the discovery and orbit determination of comets and the brightness determination of nebulae and star clusters.

After Johann Holetschek a moon crater and the Holetschekgasse is named in Vienna.
