Johann Krieger

Johann Krieger ( born December 28, 1651 Nuremberg, † July 18, 1735 in Zittau ), and Kruger, Kruger or Kriegher, was a German organist and composer.

Life

The warrior family was settled in Nuremberg in the 16th century and lived there until proven 1925. 's Father Hanns warriors by profession carpet makers and Garnfärber. His mother Rosina was born a builder. The main source of warrior biography is Johann Mattheson.

His education began as a Latin student of Johann Krieger Sebaldusschule at the church musician and conductor Heinrich Schwemmer ( 1621-1696 ). Warriors sang for several years as a soprano in the choir. He took in 1664 at the " children's ballet" part and received 1661-1668 harpsichord lessons with Georg Caspar Wecker, whose students also counted Johann Pachelbel.

The early years of his career are closely linked to the success of his older brother Johann Philipp Krieger, to whom he owes most of his positions. In 1671 he is said to have studied in Zeitz composition with his brother. In 1672 he followed his brother to Bayreuth, which was only court organist and later Kapellmeister there. Johann moved according to the post of organist and had this position until 1677. He then worked as a court musician in Zeitz probably before an appointment as Kapellmeister at the court of Henry I got in Greiz 1678.

From 1680 was bandmaster of the Duke Christian warriors in Eisenberg. The other 53 years he was in Zittau Director Chori Musici and only later organist at St. John's. His service was the inaugural worship service on April 5, 1682nd

On November 18, 1686 he married Martha Sophia forester. 1699 Warrior was also organist at St. Peter and Paul in Zittau. His son Adolph Gottlob ( baptized July 6, 1698 in Zittau, buried July 30, 1738 ibid ) was his deputy. The day before his death at the age of 84 years Johann Krieger played one last service.

Warrior was famous for his contrapuntal skills, such as its double joints. Georg Friedrich Handel praised his " graceful Clavierübungen " and spread it in England. Warrior can be seen in a series with Johann Kuhnau and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer. Some of his German cantatas are rare examples of the late madrigal style or mixed with a composer of the Nuremberg school.
