Johann Rihosek

Johann Řihošek ( born June 5, 1869 in Maków Podhalański, Galicia, † November 21, 1956 in Vienna) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer.

Řihošek attended secondary school in Olomouc and then studied at the Vienna University of Technology mechanical engineering. In 1893 he took up his position as a designer in the Vienna Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf. From 1897 he worked in, led by Karl Gölsdorf Department of Locomotive and wagon construction in kk Ministry of Railways. After Gölsdorfs death in 1916 Řihošek was his successor.

The First World War and its aftermath were demanding Řihošek as material shortages led to problems in the automotive industry. After the division of the locomotive driving farms to the successor states of the monarchy replacement had to be created. Thus, the rows BBÖ 270, BBÖ 81 and 82 BBÖ Outstanding Services emerged Řihošek gained in the development of railway brakes. He preferred doing the air brake system. In the development, he worked with the company Gebrüder Hardy AG together, on whose board he sat until his death. He also developed a spark arrestor for steam locomotives and the economizer.

1924 left Řihošek Head of Section at the Ministry ( since 1923 the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Transport) and was with October of the year honorary lecturer at the since the death of Rudolf Sanzin ( 1874-1922 ) gewesenen vacant chair of locomotive Vienna University of Technology. There he became associate professor in 1936 and received an honorary doctorate in 1944.

He has authored numerous articles in magazines organ for progress of the railway sector, Journal of the Austrian Engineers and Architects Association, The locomotive and railway.

Johann Řihošek was on 29 November 1956 Grinzing Cemetery to rest buried (Group 32/Reihe 5/Nr 25. ); in his honor in 1967 in Vienna Floridsdorf ( Vienna's 21st district) was named the Rihosekgasse.
