Rudolf Sanzin

Rudolf Sanzin ( born June 4, 1874 in Miirzzuschlag, † June 2, 1922 in Trieste ) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer.

His father was an official at the Southern Railway. After leaving school at the German secondary school in Trieste, he studied until 1900 at the Technical University of Graz, where he then worked for a year as an assistant for mechanical engineering. The following year he was even employed by the Southern Railway, where he made numerous attempts to steam locomotives, embracing their results in several of his works. He received his doctorate in 1904 still at the TH Graz (Dissertation: Studies on the performance of a locomotive and finding the best load the same ). His other publications received great attention in the Ministry of Railways, therefore, he was recruited by Karl Gölsdorf for this, even where those worked as a design engineer. Later he became head of the department for the construction of electric locomotives in the former Elektrisierungsamt.

In 1906 he qualified as a professor in Graz, in 1909 at the Technical University of Vienna, where he was appointed in 1919 to associate professor. 1911 and 1913 he undertook, as before his mentor Gölsdorf, study trips to England. Sanzin 1920 was appointed Head of the Department for locomotive and mechanical- mechanical devices. He was a member and an honorary member of several technical organizations and has written numerous articles in a variety of journals, including the locomotive, the magazine of the Austrian Association of Engineers and Architects Association and the Journal of the Association of German Engineers.

In addition to his professional activities, he also occupied himself with painting and produced numerous drawings and watercolors. However, this activity led to his death: While vacationing in Trieste he died of poisoning by a paint color used by him. He is buried in an honorary grave dedicated to the Vienna Central Cemetery (16B -9 -25). In 1942, the Sanzingasse in Vienna-Favoriten was named after him.
