Johann Zelebor

Johann Zelebor ( born December 5, 1819 in Eggenburg, Lower Austria, † February 19, 1869 in Vienna ) was an Austrian naturalist, zoologist and illustrator.

Zelebor was a trained carpenter. In 1850 he got a job as a preparator at the Vienna Natural History Cabinet. Under Georg Ritter von Frauenfeld he took from 1857 to 1859 on the expedition of the Austrian frigate Novara (Novara Expedition ) around the earth in part, where he distinguished himself as a collector and taxidermist and 1858 the Golden Cross of Merit was awarded with crown. After his return he was in 1861 appointed curator of the mammal department of the Zoological yard cabinets.
