John A. Lafore, Jr.

John Armand Lafore, Jr. ( born May 25, 1905 in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, † January 24, 1993 in Villanova, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1957 and 1961 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Lafore attended the public schools of his home and thereafter until 1925, the Swarthmore College. Subsequently, he studied until 1926 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. From 1932 to 1957 he worked as a car dealer in Philadelphia. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. He was Comptroller in Montgomery County and chairman of the municipal council of Lower Merion. During the Second World War he served between 1942 and 1945 in the U.S. Navy. From 1950 to 1957 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

Following the resignation of Mr Samuel K. McConnell was Lafore at the due election for the 13 seats of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 5 November 1957. After a re-election, he could remain until January 3, 1961 at the Congress. In 1960, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Lafore worked for an aircraft company in Willow Grove. In the years 1965 and 1966 he was vice president of the company Day and Zimmerman in Philadelphia. He was also an avid dog breeder. From 1968 to 1971 he was Vice President and 1971-1979 President of the American Kennel Club, which deals with the dog breed. He died on 24 January 1993 at Villanova.
