John Adriano Acea

John "Johnny" Adriano Acea ( born October 11, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † late 1980s ) was an American jazz pianist.

Acea was born into a Cuban family that had settled around 1910 in Philadelphia. He initially played the trumpet and was the late 30s working as a freelance musician, among others, Sammy Price; then he switched to tenor saxophone and played at Doc Bagley. In the early 1940s he moved to New York. The mid-1940s he moved to the piano and played in various groups. 1947/48 he played with Eddie " Lockjaw " Davis, with whom he appeared in Minton 's Playhouse; In 1950 he was one of the Dizzy Gillespie Big on tape. In the early 1950s he accompanied James Moody, Illinois Jacquet, Dinah Washington and Cootie Williams; In 1954 he followed Jacquet on a European tour. As a studio musician Acea has participated in recordings of musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Illinois Jacquet, Al Sears, Joe Newman, Eddie Jefferson and Grant Green. According Feather / Gitler he died in the late 1980s.
