John Baptist Liu Jingshan

John Baptist Liu Jingshan ( born October 24, 1913 in Inner Mongolia, † February 4, 2013 in Yinchuan ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Yinchuan ( Ningsia, Ningxia ) in the Autonomous Region of Ningxia Hui Nationality in the People's Republic of China.

Life

Liu Jingshan, a native of Inner Mongolia, was ordained a priest in 1942. After the takeover, Mao Zedong began a period of massive repression of all religions. Liu Jingshan was interned from 1951 to 1970 in a communist labor camp. Only after the end of the Cultural Revolution, he was released and was able to resume his pastoral activity again.

In 1984 he became head of the Diocese of Yinchuan, but received only at the age of eighty years, the episcopal ordination. He was beatified by Benedict XVI. and the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association recognized. On 21 December 2007 he consecrated in the Cathedral of Yinchuan, in turn, Joseph Li Jing to the bishop, who then supported him as Coadjutor Bishop. 2009 Liu Jingshan became Professor Emeritus and Li Jing his successor.
