John Baring, 7th Baron Ashburton

John Francis Harcourt Baring, 7th Baron Ashburton, KG, KCVO ( born November 2, 1928) is an influential former British banker.

He is a member of the famous banking family Baring. For this he was 1985 to 1989, Chairman of Barings Bank. He was also from 1983 a member of the Board of the Bank of England. Baring also sat on the Board (Board of Directors ) of Jaguar, Dunlop and Royal Insurance. Furthermore, Baring was CEO (CEO) of British Petroleum (BP). He held from 1992 to 1995 this office.

From 1990 to 1994 Baring has also worked for the Prince of Wales in his capacity as Duke of Cornwall. He held the office of Lord Warden of the Stannaries at this time. The owner of this ceremonial office today is in fact the most senior adviser to the Duke in matters relating to the Duchy of Cornwall.

Baring has four children from his first marriage divorced in 1984. His second wife was married to a grand-niece of Winston Churchill. Together with her he founded a company that specializes in the reproduction of historic textiles.

In 1991 he inherited from his father the title of Baron Ashburton; three years later he was inducted into the Order of the Garter.
