John Blake, Jr. (politician)

John Blake Jr. ( born December 5, 1762, Ulster County, New York, † January 13, 1826 in Montgomery, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1805 and 1809 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Blake Jr. grew up during the British colonial period. He attended public schools. During the Revolutionary War he served in the National Guard of New York. In 1793 he was appointed deputy sheriff ( deputy sheriff ) in Ulster County. Between 1798 and 1800 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Then he was 1803-1805 Sheriff in Orange County.

As opponents of a strong central government, he joined, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1804 Blake was in the fifth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Andrew McCord March 4, 1805. Blake was re-elected once and then retired after the March 3, 1809 from the Congress of.

Then he sat in the years 1812 and 1813 in the New York State Assembly. Between 1815 and 1818, he was judge of the Court of Common Pleas. In 1819 he sat again in the New York State Assembly. Blake was 15 tenures Town Supervisor of the Town of Montgomery. He died there on 13 January 1826 and was buried at the Berea Church Yard at Newburgh.
