John Bonar

John Bonar (* July 10, 1886, † March 28, 1963 in Los Angeles ) was an American production designer, who was nominated once for an Academy Award for Best Production Design.

Life

Bonar worked for the first time in 1944 during the staged by Richard Thorpe Revue film My treasure is a sailor ( Two Girls and a Sailor ) with June Allyson, Gloria DeHaven and Van Johnson as Production Designer in producing a film.

For the film based on the novel Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray ( The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1945), which was his second and last involvement in a film production, Bonar was with Cedric Gibbons, Hans O. Peters, Edwin B. Willis and Hugh Hunt nominated for the Academy Award for best Production Design in a black and white film. In the film adaptation resulting directed by Albert Lewin played alongside Hurd Hatfield as Dorian Gray 'George Sanders, and Lowell Gilmore the other main roles.
