John Buchanan Robinson

John Buchanan Robinson ( * May 23, 1846 in Allegheny, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, † January 28, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1897 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Robinson was born in Allegheny, which now belongs to the city of Pittsburgh. He attended Amherst College and studied at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1864 he participated for a short time as a soldier in the army of the Union in the Civil War. In the same year he enrolled at the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated in 1868. Until 1875, he then served in the U.S. Navy. After studying law and his 1876 was admitted as a lawyer, he started working in Philadelphia in this profession. In 1878 he moved his residence and his law firm for media. There, he joined in the press business. In the years 1881 and 1882 he published the newspaper Delaware County Gazette. He also worked as a reporter yourself. Eventually he acquired the newspaper media Ledger. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1885 and 1887 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania; in 1889 he was a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1890 Robinson was in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Smedley Darlington on March 4, 1891. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1897 three legislative periods. In 1896, he was not confirmed. Also 1891-1897, Robinson was president of the League of Republican Clubs of Pennsylvania. In 1893 he was a member of the governing body ( Board of Visitors ) of the U.S. Naval Academy.

In the years 1892, 1896 and 1908, John Robinson participated as a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions, to which Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley and William Howard Taft was nominated as the presidential candidate. Between 1900 and 1914 he was a U.S. Marshal for the Eastern part of the state Pennsylvania. He died on January 28, 1933 in Philadelphia.
