John Burdett

John Burdett, actually John Patrick Burdett ( born July 24, 1951 in Southampton ) is an English writer.

Life

Burdett studied law and worked for a time as a lawyer. He lived for ten years in Hong Kong and worked for a British company for some time in the British colonial administration. Later he made as a lawyer in Hong Kong on their own. When he had successfully debuting with his first novel, a private affair and his second novel, The Last Days of Hong Kong promised to be a success, he devoted himself to just writing.

Burdett is divorced and has one daughter.

Reception

Burdett invented the protagonists Sonchai Jitpleecheep of the Royal Thai Police, a devout Buddhists. His four novels ( they are to be continued ) play in and around Bangkok and are located in the red-light districts Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy. The current (2010) novel of it ( The godfather of Kathmandu ) quoted by his title Mario Puzo's novel The godfather.

This novel cycle to Sonchai Jitpleecheep should be made ​​into a movie. The director James McTeigue has signed on the film adaptation of the first novel ( The Jadereiter ); However, this film does not appear to have been implemented.
