John Clayton Nienstedt

John Clayton Nienstedt ( born March 18, 1947 in Detroit ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

Life

John Clayton Nienstedt received on 27 July 1974, the ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 12 June 1996 as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit and Titular Bishop of Alton. The Archbishop of Detroit, Cardinal Adam Joseph Maida, donated him then on 9 July 1996, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Cardinal James Aloysius Hickey, Archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Edmund Casimir Szoka, as well.

On 12 June 2001 he was appointed bishop of New Ulm; The inauguration took place on 6 August 2001.

On April 24, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. coadjutor of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, where he became the successor of Harry Flynn as archbishop on May 2, 2008.

In August 2012, he stated that the same-sex marriage is as wrong as the killing of a human being.
