John Cunningham (bishop)

John Cunningham ( born February 22, 1938 in Paisley ) is a Scottish priest and bishop of Galloway.

Life

Cunningham was educated at Saint Mary's College, Blairs, St Peter 's College, Cardross and Scots College, Rome ( JCD, Gregorian University, Rome, 1964).

John Cunningham received on 29 June 1961, and was ordained priest incardinated in the Clergy of the Diocese of Paisley. In addition to his time as an assistant priest in Bishopton he was from 1967 to 1981 professor at Saint Peter's College, Cardross and Newland in Glasgow. From 1969 to 1974 he was chaplain in Paisley.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 7 April 2004 as Bishop of Galloway.

He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh, Keith Michael Patrick O'Brien, on 28 May of the same year; Co-consecrators were Maurice Taylor, retired bishop of Galloway, and John Aloysius Mone, Bishop of Paisley.
