John De Witt Warner

John De Witt Warner ( born October 30, 1851 in Reading, New York, † May 27, 1925 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John De Witt Warner was born about three and a half years after the end of the Mexican-American War, on a farm in the Town of Reading in Schuyler County. The Warner family moved to Big Stream (later Glenora ) and 1860, they settled in Rock Stream in Yates County. In the following years he attended the district schools and Starkey Seminary in Eddy Town. He studied and completed his preparatory studies. In 1872, he graduated from Cornell University. He gave a few months the Ithaca Daily Leader out. In the following four years he worked as a professor at the Ithaca Academy and Albany Academy. In 1876 he graduated from the Albany Law School. His admission to the bar he was in the same year and began in 1877 to practice in New York City. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1890 for the 52nd Congress Warner was in the eleventh electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Quinn on March 4, 1891. In 1892 he was a candidate in the 13th electoral district of New York for the 53rd Congress. After a successful election, he entered on March 4, 1893, the successor of Ashbel P. Fitch. Since he gave up for reelection in 1894, he retired after the March 3, 1895 out of the Congress.

After his conference time he went to New York City back to his work as a lawyer after. Between 1902 and 1905 he was president of the Art Commission of New York City between 1905 and 1909 president of the American Free Trade League. He was in the years 1911 and 1912 as Special Advisor (special counsel ) in Terminal work for the Dock Department operates. In 1913 he sat in the Commission which revised the banking laws of New York. Warner was also active literary. He practiced until his death as a lawyer. On May 27, 1925, he died in New York City and was buried in Rock Stream in the same cemetery.
