John Dear

Dear John ( born August 13, 1959 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, United States) is an American priest of the Catholic Jesuit order, high school teacher, peace activist and author nonviolence.

Life

Dear John uses the methods of civil disobedience as a way to protest against war and violence. Following his protests, he was arrested more than 75 times; his longest prison term amounted to eight months in prison plus nine months of house arrest. This he received for his involvement in a ploughshare - motion disarmament. Subsequently Dear lost his voting rights in the United States, the free right to travel and learn special investigations at airports.
