John DeWitt (athlete)

John DeWitt ( John Riegel DeWitt, born October 29, 1881 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, † July 28, 1930 in New York, NY) was an American hammer thrower and football player.

He won the IC4A, the American University Championships in the hammer throw 1901-1904 four times in a row and won in this discipline at the Olympic Games 1904 in St. Louis the silver medal.

As a football player played from 1901 to 1903 for the team of Princeton University, and in 1902 and 1903, elected to the All American football team. DeWitt was inducted into the College Football Hall Of Fame in 1954.
