John Frederick of Holstein-Gottorp, Prince-Bishop

Johann Friedrich of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp ( born September 1, 1579 Gottorp, † September 3, 1634 in Altkloster in Buxtehude ) was a Protestant Archbishop of Bremen, Prince-Bishop of Lübeck and bishop of Verden.

He was the son of Adolf von Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp and Christine of Hesse. He had two children. Friedrich and Christine were legitimized in 1621 by the Emperor and raised under the name of Holstein to the peerage. Her mother was a native of Bremervörde Anna Dobbel.

After his brother Johann Adolf von Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp in 1590 Duke was, he gave in 1596 the Archbishop of Bremen dignity of Johann Friedrich from. 1607 took over Johann Friedrich then also the Prince-Bishop of Lübeck title from his brother. From 1631 he was also bishop of Verden. He held until his death in 1634 all offices.
