John Godber

John Harry Godber ( born May 18, 1956 in Upton, West Yorkshire ) is a British playwright and director.

Life

After schooling the son of a miner studied at the University of Leeds and then worked between 1979 and 1983 as a teacher. In addition to his 1984 started work as Artistic Director of the HullTruckTheatreCompany Godber began his literary career and wrote over 30 plays and screenplays for television and radio.

Among his most famous works include Up'n'under (1984 ), which was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award and made ​​into a film in 1997, Bouncers (1986 ), Teechers (1987 ), Lucky Sods (1995) and Thick as a Brick ( 1999). In 2001 he accepted an appointment as professor of Drama at the University of Hull and was then in 2004 a professor of popular theater at Liverpool Hope University.

Godber applies after William Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn as the most played author of plays in the UK and ended in 2010 after 26 years of its collaboration with the HullTruckTheatreCompany. Then he announced in March 2011 its cooperation with the Wakefield Theatre Royal.
