John Hay, 2nd Marquess of Tweeddale

John Hay, 2nd Marquess of Tweeddale, (* 1645, † August 20, 1713 ) was from 1704 to 1705 Lord Chancellor of Scotland.

He was the eldest son of John Hay, 1st Marquess of Tweeddale and his wife Jean, daughter of Walter Scott, 1st Earl of Buccleuch. In 1666, he married Lady Mary Maitland, daughter of John Maitland, 1st Duke of Lauderdale.

After a military career, he went into politics. In 1695 he was Chancellor of the Exchequer. After the death of his father in 1697 he took over the title.

He was appointed Lord High Commissioner to the Scottish Parliament in 1704 and was Lord Chancellor of Scotland from 1704 to 1705.

His eldest son, Charles (1670-1715), was the 3rd Marquess.
