John Huchra

John Peter Huchra (born 23 December 1948 in Jersey City, † October 8, 2010 in Lexington ) was an American astronomer.

For many years he measured redshifts of galaxies to determine the structure of the universe. In 1989 he discovered while the Great Wall along with Margaret Geller. He discovered the known gravitational lens, which is responsible for the Einstein Cross, and is now known as Huchras lens.

He was Vice - Provost at Harvard University and Professor of Astrophysics at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

The asteroid ( 4656 ) Huchra was named after him.
