John Julius Norwich

John Julius Cooper, 2nd Viscount Norwich, CVO ( born September 15, 1929), known as John Julius Norwich, is a British peer, writer and television presenter.

Are known of all his work over the Byzantine Empire and the Norman Kingdom of Sicily.

Life

Family

John Julius Cooper was born on September 15, 1929, son of Alfred Duff Cooper and his wife, Diana Cooper. His father was named in recognition of his literary and political achievements for 1952 Viscount Norwich. After his death in 1954 his son John Julius Cooper inherited his title and the associated seat in the House of Lords.

Career

John Julius Cooper attended Upper Canada College in Toronto, Eton College, the University of Strasbourg and, after his military service in the Royal Navy, the New College, Oxford, where he studied French and Russian.

In 1952, John Julius Cooper diplomat of the British Foreign Service. He worked for the embassies in Belgrade and Beirut and participated in the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. In 1964 he left the Foreign Service to dedicate himself under the pseudonym " John Julius Norwich " writing. In the following decades, he has published several books, most of them historical works, and worked with in some television productions.

Lord Norwich is Chairman of the Venice in Peril Fund, vice chairman of the World Monuments Fund and former leader of the National Trust. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Society of Antiquaries of London and of the Royal Society of Literature. He wears the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, class Commendatore, and since 1993 has been a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

John Julius Norwich has a son, Jason Charles Duff Bede Cooper ( born 1959 ), and a daughter from his first marriage and another daughter from an affair.
