John Kostecki

John Kostecki ( born June 7, 1964 in Pittsburgh / USA) is an American professional sailor.

He was twice tactician aboard an America's Cup yacht (1995 and 2000), is a ten -time World Champion of different classes and won at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul ( Korea), the silver medal in the Soling. 2001/2002, he served as skipper of the Volvo Ocean Race yacht Illbruck Leverkusen to victory. After a brief involvement with the America's Cup team BMW Oracle Racing, he was a watch captain and later as skipper - he solved Neal McDonald from - on the Swedish yacht Ericsson in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005/2006 in use, but was only fifth (of seven participants ). The end of 2006, he signed again with the Ericsson team as skipper for the next Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009, but resigned in August 2007 for family reasons from his post as skipper back.

2008, the new CEO of BMW Oracle Racing, Russell Coutts, John Kostecki committed for the Afterguard his team for the next edition of the America's Cup. This edition was held between Alinghi and BMW Oracle Racing in February 2010 against Valencia. BMW Oracle won the America 's Cup with her Trimiaran against Alinghi 2-0. John Kostecki was similar for both races as tactician on board.
