John Linus Paschang

John Linus Paschang ( born October 5, 1895 in Hemingford, Nebraska, † March 21, 1999 in West Point, Nebraska) was Bishop of Grand Iceland.

Life

Paschang was ordained a priest on 12 June 1921. Then he studied until 1923 canon law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC In 1927 he was then pastor of Holy Cross Church in Omaha.

Pope Pius XII. appointed him on 28 July 1951 as Bishop of Grand Iceland. He received his episcopal consecration on October 9 of the same year the Archbishop of Omaha, Gerald Thomas Bergan. He participated in the Second Vatican Council and in part positioned himself against some reform efforts. On July 25, 1972, the 76 -year-old Paschang from his office resigned after Paul VI. had refused to be filed after his 75th birthday resignation.

In 1976 he founded the Leper Damian Relief Society. John Linus Paschang died after an illness at the age of 103 years at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. He was the world to this time, the oldest Catholic bishop.
