John Mahoney

John Mahoney ( born June 20, 1940 in Blackpool ) is an American actor of British origin.

Life and career

Born and raised in England, located Mahoney joined the late 1950s, the United States Army and emigrated to the United States. After academic and journalistic activities, he turned at the age of 37 years to acting, first as a theater actor. In 1977 he became a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

In the early 1980s played Mahoney first roles in film and television. As a result, he played among others in the films of Barry Levinson ( Tin Men, 1987), Norman Jewison ( Moonstruck / Moonstruck, 1987), Roman Polanski ( Frantic, 1988), Constantin Costa -Gavras, ( Betrayed / Betrayed, 1988) ethane and Joel Coen ( Barton Fink, 1991 Hudsucker - Der große Sprung / The Hudsucker proxy, 1994) and Clint Eastwood ( In the Line of Fire - The Second Chance, 1993). In the animated film Atlantis - The Lost Empire (2001), he can be heard in the original English version and synchronous voice.

Mahoney's most famous role is that of Martin Crane in the television series Frasier, in which he played from 1993 to 2004 the father of the title character, a retired, the disabled police officer who lives and flat shares with his son, with whom he has little in common. For this role, Mahoney was nominated several times for an Emmy and a Golden Globe. He also played in the episode " Between Heaven and Hell" ( Season 2, Episode 22) of the sitcom Becker a priest and the brother of a patient of Dr. John Becker (played by Ted Danson ). In the second season of the series In Treatment - The Therapist (2009) Mahoney played the recurring role of managing director of an industrial group in the episodes 2:04 to 2:34. Most recently, he was in love and freaking out in 2010 in the film to see.

In parallel to the film and television work Mahoney played on the theater and won a Tony Award in 1986, among other things for his performance in the play The House of Blue Leaves. Since the end of Frasier Mahoney is again mainly at the theater operates.
