Barry Levinson

Barry Levinson ( born April 6, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American film director.

Life

During his studies, Levinson had different jobs while watching TV in Baltimore. In order to work permanently in the film and television industry, he moved to Los Angeles and took acting lessons. First job as a comedian in comedy clubs took him to writing screenplays. In the early 1970s he began writing scripts for sitcoms and movies, some of which were realized by Mel Brooks. His debut as a director, he was then in 1982 with Diners. In 1989, he won the Oscar for best director for Rain Man. Although in his career he also repeatedly flops as deadly toys, Avalon or Sphere - The Power landed from outer space, it also often get spectacular successes such as Rain Man and Bandits.

Many of his films are set in the city of his youth Baltimore: American Diner, Tin Men, Avalon and Liberty Heights.
