John Q. Underhill

John Quincy Underhill ( born February 19, 1848 in New Rochelle, New York, † May 21, 1907 ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Quincy Underhill was born about two weeks after the end of the Mexican - American War in New Rochelle in Westchester County and grew up there. He attended private and public schools and the College of the City of New York. Then he went to insurance transactions. In 1877 he was Village Trustee of New Rochelle. We chose him in 1878 as President of the Village and was re-elected in 1880. He served as Town Auditor. Then he sat for several years in the Education Committee. He worked for 19 years for the Westchester Fire Insurance Co., where he was president and treasurer ( treasurer ). Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1898 for the 56th Congress Underhill was in the 16th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William L. Ward on March 4, 1899. Since he gave up for reelection in 1900, he retired after the March 3, 1901 out of the Congress. After that he went into retirement. On May 21, 1907, he died in New Rochelle and was then buried in the Beech Woods Cemetery.
