John Quinn Weitzel

John Quinn Weitzel MM ( born May 10, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois ) is a retired bishop of Samoa - Pago Pago in American Samoa.

Life

John Quinn Weitzel joined the Congregation of the Maryknoll Missionary Order, and received on 11 June 1955, the ordination. From 1982 to 1986 he was administrator of the Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia.

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1986 the first bishop of the newly erected Diocese of Samoa - Pago Pago. He received his episcopal consecration October 29, 1986 Cardinal Pio Taofinu'u SM, Archbishop of Samoa - Apia; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Honolulu, Joseph Anthony Ferrario, and Patrick Vincent Hurley CSsR, Auxiliary Bishop in Samoa and Tokelau.

Pope Francis took on May 31, 2013, his age-related withdrawal.
