John Shanley (bishop)

John Shanley ( born January 4, 1852 in Albion, New York, USA, † July 16, 1909 in Fargo, North Dakota) was Bishop of Fargo.

Life

John Shanley attended St. John 's College in Collegeville Township, Minnesota. Shanley studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Collegio Urbano de Propaganda Fide in Rome. He received on 30 May 1874, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

On November 29, 1889, he was named Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Jamestown ( in April 1897 in the diocese of Fargo renamed). The Archbishop of Saint Paul, John Ireland, donated to him on 27 December of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Bishop Emeritus of Saint Paul, Thomas Langdon Grace OP, and the Bishop of Sioux Falls, Martin Marty, OSB.
