John Simm

John Ronald Simm (born 10 July 1970, Leeds, West Yorkshire ) is a British actor and musician.

Life

Simm was born in 1970 as the son of Brenda and Ronald Simm in Leeds, but spent his childhood in Nelson, Lancashire, where his family moved when he was five years old. His father, a musician who inspired him early on in the music and gave him guitar lessons. Together they came later on as Us2 where Simm Elvis Presley song Wooden Heart sang as a singer and guitarist, who was also his debut single.

Acting Career

During his school years at the Edge End School in Nelson Simm discovered his passion for acting, as he participated in several school plays. In 1986 he attended for three years, the Drama College in Blackpool and later for another three years, the Drama Centre London, where he learned acting by Konstantin Stanislavski Method Acting. In 1992 he graduated from drama school and made his debut the same year in minor roles in various television series and films. In 1995, he was his first starring role in a movie, the drama Boston Kickout recorded, that in the category earned him an award at the film festival in Valencia for Best Actor.

There were other role offers, such as the role of Danny Kavanagh in Jimmy McGovern's BBC drama The Lakes, or the movies Human Traffic and Wonderland ( 1995). Since then Simm is regarded as a sought-after actor for primarily national film and television productions.

In 24 Hour Party People 2002, he played Bernard Sumner, the guitarist of Joy Division and charismatic frontman of New Order.

The best known is probably Simm for his portrayal of police inspector Sam Tyler in the series Life on Mars - Caught in the 70s. Shortly after he took over the role of The Master Erzbösewichtes for five episodes in the British sci-fi cult series Doctor Who.

2007 Simm returned back to the theater as the title character in the stage version of Elling, a comedy about two men who have just been released from a psychiatric clinic and to get used to normal life. According to positive press reports and sold-out performances Simm was nominated in the role for an Olivier Award.

In addition, Simm was in the television series Mad Dogs in 2011 one more time next Life on Mars co-star Philip Glenister to see. In Exile (2011), a three-part BBC miniseries, he played an unsuccessful journalist and the son of Jim Broadbent's character, a journalist with Alzheimer's.

Personal

Simm is married to fellow actress Kate Magowan, together in 24 Hour Party People stood with him in front of the camera. The couple has two children.
