John Spencer-Churchill, 10th Duke of Marlborough

John Albert William Spencer - Churchill, 10th Duke of Marlborough (* September 18, 1897, † March 11 1972 in Blenheim Palace [? ] ) Was a British nobleman and politician ( mayor of Woodstock ).

Life

Spencer-Churchill was born in 1897 as the eldest son of Charles Spencer-Churchill, 9th Duke of Marlborough, and his wife Consuelo Vanderbilt. Before Spencer-Churchill in 1934 after the death of his father the title of Duke of Marlborough inherited, he served in the British Army as a Colonel in the Life Guards. Between 1937 and 1943 he also served as mayor of Woodstock. After his death, his son John Spencer - Churchill, 11th Duke of Marlborough, his successor. Spencer-Churchill was buried in the crypt of the chapel of Blenheim Palace.

Marriage and issue

On February 17, 1920 married Spencer-Churchill Alexandra Mary Cadogan (* February 22, 1900, † May 23, 1961 ), after her death in 1961 he married on January 26, 1972 in second wife Laura Francis Charteris. From the first marriage two sons and three daughters were born.

Six weeks before his death, on 26 January 1972 the Duke married his second wife ( Frances ) Laura Canfield born Charteris (London, August 10, 1915-1990 ), the widow of the American publishing heir Michael Temple Canfield (whose first wife was Caroline Lee Bouvier, sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis ). Canfield was the second daughter of The Hon Guy Lawrence Charteris (23 May 1886-1967 ), second son of Hugo Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss, and his wife Frances Lucy Tennant (1887 - November 5, 1925). Laura's older sister, Anne Geraldine Mary Charteris (June 19, 1913-1981 ), married the writer Ian Fleming. Laura herself was previously married and divorced two British aristocrats (Walter Long, 2nd Viscount Long and William Ward, 3rd Earl of Dudley )
