John Thomas Romney Robinson

John Thomas Romney Robinson ( born April 23 1792 in Dublin, † February 28, 1882 in Armagh ) was a British astronomer.

Life

Robinson studied at Trinity College in Dublin Physics and Astronomy. His academic career began with a professorship for " Natural Philosophy " (physics) in Dublin. In 1823 he was appointed astronomer at Armagh Observatory. Here his main area of 1828 to 1854 was in the local provisions of stars, which he cataloged. In this way, the so-called Armagh catalog, which processed the positions of 5345 stars was born. This catalog was the basis for the great fundamental catalog, which allowed the derivation of the movements of the stars from the combined observed during the 18th and 19th centuries stars.
