John Worlidge

John Worlidge (* 1640, † 1700) was an English agronomist. He lived in Petersfield ( Hampshire), England.

John Worlidge was one of the first agricultural scientist who grappled with the importance of agriculture as an industrial factor. In his famous book Vinetum Britannicum or a Treatise of Cider Worlidge entered for the production of cider over the wine production in the British Isles, since prevail better climatic conditions than for growing grapes for the large-scale cultivation of pome fruit in the field.

Worlidge enjoyed great prestige as an expert in the rural areas. Besides Vinetum Brittannicum he also wrote Systema Agriculturae or the Mystery of Husbandry (1699 ) on the livestock and Systema Horticulturae or the Art of Gardening ( 1677) on horticulture.
